Tampa Catholic football coach Bob Henriquez says he has seen a lot of tough players compete for the Crusaders during his 15 years there, but he said his wiffe, Carrie “beat them all hands-down” early this morning at Tampa General Hospital.
That’s when Carrie delivered the Henriquez family’s second child, a baby girl, by emergency Cesarean section. Henriquez said their daughter’s umbilical cord was wrapped around her ankle, causing fluctuations in her heartbeat.
Doctors decided to deliver the baby immediately by C-section and at 1:54 a.m., 7 pound, 8 ounce, 21-inch long Elin Mckenize Henriquez officially came into this world. Henriquez said both mom and daughter are doing well.
“Once they decided on the c-section, it all happened so fast,” Henriquez said. “The next thing I knew, I was wearing scrubs and there were all sorts of doctors and nurses taking charge of things in the room.”
Henriquez, who also has a soon-to-be-3-year-old son, Drew, said he captured the entire delivery on film.
“Tampa Catholic video cameras have filmed a lot of great wins, but this was the biggest victory I’ve witnessed in my career,” Henriquez said. “I still can’t get over how tough Carrie was the whole time. She was just amazing.”
Considering the long night his family just experienced, Henriquez joked that he will probably miss today’s summer conditioning training by the Crusaders football team.
