LAND O’ LAKES – The nation’s No. 1 tight end recruit, Land O’ Lakes senior Kent Taylor, has decided which school he will commit to, and will announce that choice on Oct. 27.

Taylor, a 6-foot-5, 220-lb prospect known for his pass-catching ability, made the decision after visiting seven different universities since the spring – Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana State, Florida State, Florida and Penn State.

Before the prep season started, he narrowed the list down to four – Florida, Penn State, Alabama and Georgia. He took one official visit, to Penn State, to watch the Nittany Lions play Alabama and also visit family which live in that area. Shortly thereafter, he made unofficial visits to see Oklahoma at Florida State and Alabama at Florida.

“It’s where I fit in the best, socially, academically and athletically,” Taylor said when asked what the deciding factor was in his decision.

Taylor also has rebounded nicely on the field since breaking his left hand in a preseason game against Anclote. He missed the first two regular-season games entirely, then returned to face Hernando, where he was hampered by a cast which remained on the hand, and failed to match a catch.

Since the cast was taken off, however, he has been his usual self, catching seven passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns in four quarters of play (one half each vs. Mitchell and Springstead).

“I’m 100 percent now, no question about it,” he said. “Just focused on winning out and making it to the playoffs.”
