One Punch Productions, a longtime boxing promotions company based in Tampa has expanded.
The company not only has added New Jersey junior welterweight Michael Torres (13-1, 7 KOs), but it will also begin promoting shows in North Carolina.
“Michael is exactly the type of talent that I look for,” One Punch Productions president Terry Trekas said in a release. “He can box, he can punch a bit, and he has a good head on his shoulders. The first step is to get him back in the ring and keep him busy. He will be appearing on our October 29 show in Charlotte, N.C., and then again on December 3. After that Cameron Dunkin (Torres’ manager) and I will look at the 140 pound landscape and chart the best path we can for Michael.”
As for opening shop in North Carolina, Trekas said the move came down to two cities in two different states.
“I have been looking at additional markets for almost a year, and ultimately it came down to Charlotte and Savannah, GA,” Trekas said. “In the end, I chose Charlotte. It’s a great sports city, with the Panthers in the NFL, the Bobcats in the NBA, and they even have a minor league hockey team, the Charlotte Checkers. I think our events will fit in quite well there, and we were fortunate to be able to make a deal with the luxurious Blake Hotel in downtown Charlotte to host our events.”
One Punch will host its fist show in Charlotte on October 29 followed by a November 12 in Tampa.
“Ideally I would like to do 6 shows a year in Charlotte, and continue with our Tampa shows on alternate months,” Trekas continued. “This will give our fighters exposure in an additional market, as well as adding six additional dates to keep our guys busy. So I’m very optimistic about this, and hopefully the Charlotte market welcomes our events. That’s the true litmus test in this business, and based on the preliminary feedback we are getting from up there this expansion should be very successful.”
