Tampa Prep senior Jay Bowie, a 6-foot-5 forward, verbally committed to Marist College on Wednesday, Tampa Prep coach Joe Fenlon said.

Bowie received an from Marist, his first official offer, just days before the team’s Class 2A region final against Community School of Naples.

Bowie led the Terrapins to the 2A state championship earlier this month, where the team fell to nationally-ranked Jacksonville Providence. Bowie averaged a double-double this season with 16.3 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Fenlon said interest for Bowie increased since the City of Tampa Championships and Tampa Hoops Classic tournaments in December, where he performed well against some of the top players in the Bay Area and in the nation.

On Saturday, Bowie will join some of the top players in the state at the FACA All-Star Classic in Daytona Beach. He was also named to the Class 2A All-State Tournament Team by FlaVarsity.com.

Bowie scored 18 points in the championship game and will end his career with 1,219 career points.

Last year, Bowie, in his first season with Tampa Prep, emerged as one of the top players in Hillsborough County by leading Tampa Prep to the 2A state semifinals with 14.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
