The Tampa Prep administration will rename the gymnasium floor after two of its most decorated coaches.
The gym floor has been named after former volleyball coach Carol Chalu and boys basketball coach Joe Fenlon. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 3 at 4 p.m., Tampa Prep Interim Director of Athletics director Mike Flynn said.
Chalu guided Prep to 12 state volleyball titles between 1980 and 1997, including six consecutive from 1980 to 1985, the second-most consecutive championships ever won in the history of the state volleyball tournament. Chalu resigned as head varsity coach in 1997 to coach the junior varsity team.
Fenlon has accumulated over 550 wins and led the boys basketball program to six state final four appearances and three state runner-up finishes. Last season, the Terrapins fell to nationally-ranked Jacksonville Providence in the Class 2A state final.
