Tampa Catholic senior guard Meghan Keough verbally committed to the University of Central Florida on Sunday.

Keough, a key player in the Crusaders state championship run earlier this year, had interest and offers from several other schools, but had her sights set on UCF, where she hopes she can contribute early.

Keough took a visit of the school this weekend. She spent time with coaches, watched game film and learned where she would fit in with the team.

“I’m so excited. It’s like a weight lifted off of my shoulders,” Keough said. “I used to think that I wanted to go out of state, but I like the idea of staying in Florida so my parents can see me play. The facilities are brand new and I like the coaches.”

This past season, Keough was Tampa Catholic’s third-leading scorer, averaging 12 points per game. She also contributed, on average, 3.4 assists, 3 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game. Keough will be one of the top seniors returning in Hillsborough County next season.
