Tampa Catholic boys basketball coach Don Dziagwa earned his 400th career win on Friday night. The milestone came when the Crusaders defeated New Dimensions, 86-68, at the Dunnellon Thanksgiving tournament.
Sophomore Chivarsky Corbett led Tampa Catholic with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
“You kind of lose track,” Dziagwa said. “I knew I was 399 going into the state tournament. It would have nice to get 400 there. It shows I’ve coached a long time. I didn’t win any of theses games, the players did.”
In 1995, Dziagwa guided TC to win the Class 3A state championship, the program’s first. Last season, the Crusaders reached the Class 3A state semifinals.
“It really comes down to the players,” he said. “I think it shows that at TC, we’ve had some great players.”
Dziagwa also guided the team to the state final four in 1997 and 2000.
“It’s nice to get that out of the way on the first game,” he said.
