TAMPA – Tampa Bay Little League’s under-11 baseball team continued its hot hitting streak, and got four solid innings of pitching from Kyle Tucker to win the District 6 All-Star tournament with a 12-2 win against Bayshore Little League on Saturday morning.
Tampa Bay never trailed, and took the lead for good as a three-run second inning gave it a 4-1 lead. After Patrick Donovan flew out to right, John Voiland, Tucker and Nate Cohen all drew walks to load the bases. Voiland scored on a ground ball to second by Foster Lattman, and he was followed by Tucker, who scored on a single to centerfield by Josh Russo.
Tommy Craparo then grounded into a fielder’s choice to second, as Cohen got thrown out at the plate, but Patrick Kiszla singled to bring in Lattman before Clark Bullen struck out to end the inning.
“We’ve just been hitting the ball hard all tournament from top to bottom,” Tampa Bay coach Chris Kiszla said. “We’ve scored 58 runs in four games.”
While Tucker got into some jams on the mound, he and his defense allowed only a single run in each the second and third innings. Tucker allowed seven hits, and struck out four as Bayshore left five runners in scoring position.
“It means a lot,” Tucker said of winning the tournament. “We play together, and have fun.”
Bayshore manager Jorge Ramirez was philosophical after the game. Bayshore had defeated Citrus Park Little League 7-4 on Friday night to earn a chance at the championship.
“They’re a good hitting team,” Ramirez said. “We’re thin on pitching, but the kids battled last night, it was tough game, a late game. We battled them last year, we came out on top last year, and this year was their turn. We take our hats off to them, they hit the ball when they needed to and got the big hits.”
Tampa Bay added another three runs in the third inning, before ending the game under the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fourth. After Donovan scored on a single by Tucker, and Voiland scored on a single by Cohen, Lattman hit a three-run home run to right-center field to end the game.
“It’s been really big,” Lattman said. “We’re looking forward [to sectionals] big time. It’s going to be really fun out there.”
Sectionals for Tampa Bay begin on July 18 at Pinellas Park Little League.

I am John “VOILAND’S” father. That is his last name, not VOLANO.

It’s Voiland not Valano. You might see me or some other kids on the team with mohawks. Please spell my name right.
