Talib And Boyd Fight In Symposium

Posted Jul 3, 2008 by Anwar S. Richardson

Updated Jul 3, 2008 at 07:40 AM

Bucs rookies Aqib Talib and Cory Boyd reportedly got into a fight at the recent NFL Rookie Symposium, according to Profootballtalk.com.

According the article, Talib and Boyd were in a budget and finances meeting when the altercation occurred. The alleged incident was broken up by Rob Davis, a former long snapper who currently serves as the Packers’ director of player development.

The NFL Rookie Symposium was held in Palm Beach Gardens and concluded on June 25. It included sessions on developing life skills, personal finances, football operations, the league’s substance abuse program, career planning, and general circumstances that might confront a young player.

Both players drafted by Tampa Bay had problems in college. Talib tested positive for marijuana use three times at Kansas, while Boyd was suspended for one season at South Carolina for disciplinary reasons.

We’re still checking into the details and will update you when more information is available.

Sounds like these two will fit in nicely with the Bucs, or the Raiders East !!!!!!!

Guys get into disagreements all the time.  This sort of thing is going to happen when large groups of very rich athletes get into close quarters.  To me, this isn’t a story…its just a way for some reporter to warrant his inflated paycheck.

Who really cares if a couple of our guys get into a little spat.  To be honest, I like to see the intensity…this team has needed that for a while now.  Hopefully, that can bring some of that on Sunday.

I really wish people would stop calling us the “raiders east” I mean get over it, there are going to be players that get in trouble, and im sure if you go read everyother newspaper over a year period you will have people getting in trouble, they are grown men and rich and things happen.  Remember glass houses and stones dont mix…GO BUCS!

Raiders East….Yeah, Bucs have a bad track record of discipline problems.  Yes, we gave guys an opportunity, but when it comes to arrest of Bucs players the last 3 or 4 years, I’d guess the Bucs would be in the lower third of the league.  I would surmise the Colts, coached by the beloved Tony Dungy, would rank up near the top…..not a slant on Dungy but since he is the “barometer” of what good character guys is all about….please look at the arrest record of Colts vs Bucs over the last 4 years.

Nobody got arrested here. This is a non-story as far as “arrests” go. They get into these types of scuffles everyday on the practice field and I’d be willing to bet that this little altercation stemmed from the just that thing. Boyd probably ran over Talib in practice and was rubbing it in seeing as they were on the opposite ends of the spectrum in draft order. Neither of these two have ever done anything majorly wrong really; unless you think smoking weed is a sin. It is illegal and therefore unethical, but not immoral.

22 year old young men, chock full of testosterone who make a living playing a volent sport getting in a physical altercation? I’m shocked, simply shocked by this kind of behavior.

All people that call Tampa, Raiders East are simply gay. You like men and should be permanently sent to California, in particular San Fran. Enjoy the parades and fight for equal rights. Just avoid adding your ignorant comments. The Bucs have had very little off-field problems in comparison. Young men making too much money playing sports. Im with the first guy. This is truly shocking. (wink wink)

I also agree; Raiders East promoters are gay. Oh and also, this is a non-story. Skylar’s probably right as it probably has stemmed from 1 Buc Place.

Por (BigBucFan) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)

Talib doesn’t have a signed contract yet and this could cost him money. Boyd who does, is at the bottom of a very deep backfield and could lose his job. The Bucs give 2’nd chances, but only if your good. Stevens will also be a casualty of too many TE’s. No arrests or fractured laws, but wrong actions at the wrong place at the wrong time. It was stupid of them both. It reflects poorly on the Bucs, their schools, and their Parents. At least have enough respect to take it outside. What point could be that important to fight at a symposium on proper behavior? Whatever it was, I guess they showed each other. The last thing Gruden told them all was “Stay out of Trouble”. This isn’t the last we’ll here of this.

I don’t condone insulting gay people, cause this is America where u live your life how u want, whether it be San Fran or Tampa . However, definitely shouldn’t insult Gays by comparing them to the Raiders!  This fight is nothing except maybe a troubling indicator for Talib, who we have invested a lot in, over the likes of our hometown boy wonder MIKE JENKINS!

Hey Chris & Kurt. slurrs against peoples’ sexual orientation dilute and blurr your arguement. I understand the point but there is no need for insulting someone because you disagree thier opinions! This is AMERICA! What’s next? Are you gonna call me a N@#*%R because I agree that Tampa is becoming Raider East and because I’m African-American? This is the GREATEST country in the world. Have some respect! It is July 4th! God Bless America! Go Bucs!

Many young people today use the term “Gay” to express displeasure with something or someone. It can also mean stupid, sick, out of line, weird, dumb, etc. My kids use it. I don’t particularly like the term or agree with it, but it has become normal lingo with young people in Florida. Not always meant as a racial/gender slurr. It is just as disrespectful to refer to Tampa Bay as Raiders East or link Florida to California. We still speak English here, salute the Flag, hold the door for women and help ladies of the elderly persuasion cross the street, pump gas & carry their groceries. Get a little thicker skin. Lighten up &...ok..smokem if u gottem.

quit trying to pick a fight because you’re a #####… if you’re gay then suck it up…oops..gross..I mean deal with it,..noone HAS to like gay people. It is not inherently rong to dislike fags,... it is inherently wrong though,.. to poke another man,.. or allow another man to poke you, in the netherhole.

Google the 2008 Heros Act before spouting the patriotic stuff. I agree with you we shouldn’t demean someone over orientation. The Bucs aren’t Raiders East though, because we win our division. They suck.

Por (Erik) on July 04, 2008 (Suggest removal)

Hey, Jim. Using terms like “#####” are demeaning and evil. You don’t have to like homosexuals but you should respect their rights to be who they are! This is AMERICA you Communist. We respect peoples’ differences even if we don’t agree with them. That’s what makes this the BEST country in the world! You have no respect for self or country! It’s JULY $th. Maybe you need a history lesson to learn that today isn’t about BBQ or fireworks! Bigbucsfan, this is Raiders East! The misfits, alcoholics, and criminals are taking over the Bucs like they have the Raiders. Yes the Bucs have won more but its about the characters on the team! It’s just like the Raiders!

Por (Shannon "Chief" Cherry) on July 04, 2008 (Suggest removal)

Hey guys,

Gay isn’t a slur. It’s what Homosexuals call each other. Here in Florida at Walt Disney World, and Key West, we have Gay Day, or Gay Pride Week, This is not a slur. If you want to use it as a demeaning term it is no more demeaning than calling a person a “Man” or a “Person” or a Stupid “Fan”.

Stop with the oversensitive B.S.! America needs to get over it. By the way I half Irish and half Vietnamese, I guess that makes me a McGook!

Oops I just offended myself. Makes me wonder how some of you ever got potty trained.

In other countries people are killed because they don’t have the freedom of speech, here in America we need to protect that right, no matter how offensive it sometimes seems.

Happy July 4th!
