The FHSAA-imposed suspension for Durant High wrestling coach Dennis Kitko has been reduced from six weeks to three, Kitko said Friday morning.
Kitko received the suspension following his actions during the 14th annual Cougar Invitational on Dec. 5. Kitko was ejected from the competition for unsportsmanlike conduct after arguing a call with a referee. He was suspended and fined the following week.
Kitko appealed the original suspension with the state, and this week the FHSAA informed the Cougars athletic department the length of the suspension would be cut in half. He is now eligible to return to the Cougars the week after Christmas.
“Anything is better than nothing,” Kitko said of the amount of the reduction. “I’m just ready to get on vacation and get back to it when we get back from the break.”
