KISSIMMEE—Freedom was the highest-placing Hillsborough County team at the FHSAA State Competitive Cheerleading Championships on Friday at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee.
The Patriots, seeded eighth heading into the Large Varsity finals, finished third of the eight finalists. Durant was fourth, Newsome was sixth and Bloomingdale, seeking a third consecutive state championship, faltered in the finals and finished eighth after leading the division following the semifinals.
In the Medium Varsity division, Wharton was the only local school to advance to the finals and finished fourth. Robinson, who was second heding into the finals of the Small Coed division, finished fourth.
