With the loss of several key offensive players from last season, Spoto coach Dale Caparaso has been experimenting with a few ideas to revamp the Spartans scoring attack this season.
Keep in mind, the Spartans graduated a starting quarterback in James Brown and two starting running backs in Jamar Burns and Charlie Waits. Burns rushed for 787 yards with nine touchdowns while Waits added 513 yards and four touchdowns. Brown threw for 511 yards and rushed for 185.

In the spring jamboree, rising senior Nick Addison proved he was worthy of getting the starting nod at quarterback, where he played sparingly last season, completing 12 passes for 266 yards. Caparaso will be also look to senior Cameron Alexander, a left-handed thrower, to interchange with Addison at QB.
“[Alexander] is a special kid,” Caparaso said. “He’s going to allow us to put Nick at wide receiver.”
Caparaso said with Addison and senior receiver Tyrone Baker lining up together, teams will have to worry about the long pass.
As far as replacing two standout backs, Caparaso is confident senior linebacker/running back Danny Taylor, who rushed 45 times for 311 yards with four TDs last season, can carry the load.
“Danny runs a 10.4 in the 100 [meters] and he can be the featured back in our zone blocking scheme, kind of like what Alabama does,” he said. “We’ll develop an identity in the next two weeks, but we’ll run the Delaware and run the spread. Nick is a special guy, he proved himself in 7-on-7 and we have that flexibility.”
