The start to Spoto girls basketball team’s season will have to wait.
A rash of injuries to a roster of only seven players has forced the Spartans to forfeit its first three games of the season (to Tampa Bay Tech on Monday, Steinbrenner on Tuesday and Plant Friday night).
Spoto coach Mareka Davis said her team will be ready to play after the Thanksgiving week break. The Spartans are scheduled to travel to Lennard on Dec. 1.
And despite the rough start, Davis is excited about her squad this season. Gone are leading scorer Briana Thomas (to graduation) and second-leading scorer Chelsea White (transferred to Brooks-DeBartolo), but Davis said she’s got some talent.
Though they obviously lack depth, Spoto, who has advanced to the playoffs the past two seasons and would like to make it three in a row, will feature a front line with an average height of six feet.
