Coach Jon Gruden said Greg Spires suffered a calf injury against Jacksonville during a press conference on Monday, but he actually may have damaged his Achilles tendon and could be out for several weeks.
In addition, Torrie Cox suffered knee damage in that game, but Gruden was unsure of the severity of that injury. Gruden also did not have any updates on Patrick Chukwurah (shoulder), Alex Smith (ankle), Michael Clayton (ankle) or Michael Pittman (ankle).
“I just can’t comment on it until I get the final word from our trainer,” Gruden said.
The loss of Spires is a substantial blow for Tampa Bay, which has struggled to apply offensive line pressure this season. It also means defensive end Greg White could start this Sunday against Arizona in place of Spires while he is recovering

Victor what do you mean how Garcia played in Detroit? Lost concentration? He tried to come back too early from a broken leg (5 weeks after breaking it). The real question is would the Bucs have a better record without him?

i guess every player taken in the 1st round of this last years draft with the exeption of adrian peterson and calvin johnson are busts. give me a break. gaines is gonna take a little longer to develop. were u guys really expecting him to have double digit sacks in a rebuilding defense? And what is all this Grady Jackson talk. Have you seen the guy? He’s a fat toad. Why dont we have a team made up of 1 year contract free agents? Would that make you all happy? Sorry but that’s not how u build a dynasty franchise. Every body wants the quick fix. Gruden and Allen are making the right moves, just give it time.

Even Tiki Barber commended after the last game it is a loss of concentration in Tampa Bay. If I’m any coach in the NFL, I’d review our last two losses and do the same thing and I’m sure that they will keep Jeff Garcia losing his concentration! Remember Detroit? I mean when he played for them. I’ve always been a Gruden fan in the past, but he does not appear to be the same coach. Let’s make Monte Giffin our coach asap!

WE shouldn’t go after grady jackson, he was let go for a reason, if he’s soo good why isn’t he playing in Atl?
like i’ve said before i think G.Adams is a bust just like clayton and cadillac..yes cadillac too all these guys are OK as BACKUPS but not NFL starters, gruden/allen just can’t seem to get one good pick besides ruud and, our team was miserable with dungy..now is mediocre with gruden. We have to get bill cowher he’s proven to be a winner not a whinner, B.Kelly i’m sorry and i’m gonna take heat for this, but he HAS to be traded, wayyy to injury prone, when was the last time he played a full season? or at least 10 games?

Calvin, shut your trap. These guys are gonna be in the playoffs while we are sitting at home.

Although the bucs have Greg down, the real issue is Javon Haye and the play at his position. He needs to step up! Mr Gains just need more time to develop a list of good moves and when to use them. What I like right now is the defense is not playing scared, they are being physical and not allowing themselves to be manhandled every play.

Does anyone take into account that Amobi Okoye has started 7 games and Adams has started 0? Does anyone also take into account that he has Mario Williams playing along side him to alleviate double teams? Now, I’m not saying that I wouldn’t prefer to have had Okoye, but you can’t just look at just the total number of sacks. You have to account for the number of opportunities, in this case, Okoye has a large margin in his favor. I do believe that Grady Jackson would help the team on first downs and goal line situations to stop the run. He’s a big body which the Bucs don’t usually put on the D-line where they prefer speed and quickness over size and power.

Calvin Johnson or myself would have been a nice selection by Bruce Allen, I mean they had multiple late round picks to package but decided to use them all on future special teamers and eventual cuts. But as I found out he really has no clue how to draft.

For all of you buc fans that said that not making a move to get me...(trading Simeon and a pick) was stupid, how do you like the payoff. Mario, er I mean Gaines Adams seems to be working out really well. Did you notice how Roy and I kept you all so occupied that Kevin Jones gashed you all day? Caddy could have had that love too...oh well. Thanks for the extra money as a 2 pick! Looks like you got stiffed again, and not just the stiff arm I gave you! lol

No Adams is not a dud. Yes the Bucs should have taken Amobi Okoye, but Adams will be good...eventually. DE take time to develop. That why they kept spires this year anyway. DE like Mario williams, Rice, etc all took a year or two as well. Spires was on the down side and was not progressing as a pass rusher. Look for them to address this position in Free agency b/c they need immediate help and can’t wait another year for another DE to get it next year. Also,...How many sacks does (DT)Okoye have? How many does (DE)Adams have? Aren’t DE supposed to get to the QB more often then DT’s? Allen and gruden didn’t screw this pick up too did they? No...of course not. lol Go bucs!!!

Am I the only fan who thinks Brian Kelly is using injury as a means to hold out this year. This, after playing the first came and qualifying for his season, pay but not playing much.

MICHAEL’S ARE EVERYWHERE IT SEEMS BY READING THE ARTICLE <> IN TWO WKS THE BUCS WILL HAVE THE [3 MIKE’S ]-MICHAEL PITTMAN,CLAYTON AND THE NEW[RB]BENNETT.
IF THEY ALL REMAIN HEALTHY THIS WILL GIVE THE OFFENSE A REAL LIFT <> THE DEF. DID FINE IN HOLDING JAX TOP RUNNING GAME TO 3 YDS PER CARRY AND OUT DID THEM IN THE RUN GAME 136 YRDS TO 133 <> PLUS THEY HAD 44 CARRIES TO ONLY 21 FOR THE BUCS <> IF ONLY WE COULD AVOID THE MISTAKES <> THAT WILL BE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE TRY FOR THE PLAYOFFS.

Gaines Adams stepping up? Too funny. Following the Detriot game, Adams had zero stats, no tackles, no sacks, nothing - like he stayed in Tampa and did not make the trip. For the year, 8 games, The Dud (not stud) has 16 tackles (2 per gm) and 1.5 sacks for the year ... WOW. Prior to the Jaxs game his only sack was the result of the QB tripping over his own feet and Adams tripping his way into a statistical sack. If anyone thinks the Dud is going to do much of anything this year, you are tripping just as Gruden was at picking the Dud #4 overall.

Why don’t you ask Denver how that whole Simeon Rice experiment is working out. On second tought maybe he would fit right in with the rest of the team; on the trainer’s table or on IR.

Hey Gruden!! Its time for this ship to sail without you! I want Chuckie back! Send “Gruden” and Allen A-W-A-Y!!! How would Simeon Rice help the depth now? What about the aging John Lynch and Jurevicius? Last year it was injuries, this year is injuries...bla bla bla!!! Enough of this crap!! The time has come people wake up!!! Gruden, Allen abandon ship!!

i don’t understand why ryAN SIMS HAS not played yet. he could help shut down the run! is he injured or somethin?

Mr.Adams has shown everyone what he is made of...what you see is what you get...NOTHING!
Posted by Fred Sutter, Valrico, Fl on 10/29 at 05:00 PM
Grady Jackson sucks. That’s why he was cut.
Also, Grady Jackson is a tackle. Spires is an end...how does this help with depth?
Posted by michael casner, temple terrace fl on 10/29 at 04:42 PM
I think that now is the time for Mr. Adams to show everyone why we drafted him! Go Bucs!!
Posted by Michael Singleton, Irvine,CA on 10/29 at 02:04 PM
With this injury to Spires they should definately go out and sign Grady Jackson to shore up the middle of that defensive line and stop the run.

Robert you kind of defeated your own point. A #4 pick SHOULD start. Caddy started at #5, so did Clayton. But Adams coundn’t beat out 100 year old Kevin Carter and Greg Spires. That says a lot. Most of the top ten except Russel ARE starting. And not because of injuries, they’re starting because their teams drafted first round talent. We drafted payback for Marinelli getting our guy, so we took his.
