East Bay football coach Brian Thornton is thankful for his special teams this season. And why not? They’ve won the last two games for him.

Senior kicker Forrest Meredith, whom Thornton said plans to walk-on at Florida, kicked the game-winning field goal (26 yards) in the fourth quarter against Bloomingdale on Saturday from and nailed a 42-yard field goal late in the third quarter in the season opener against Plant City, which proved to be the go ahead score for East Bay.

“Our special teams has been coming through for us,” Thornton said.

The Indians (2-0) play at Spoto (2-0) tonight, and will need every unit to play its best if they are to upset one of the county’s top teams.

“The question isn’t how we’re going to stop them, but what do we have to do to move the ball against them,” Thornton said. “They’ll throw the kitchen sink at you, so we have to be patient and we can’t afford any turnovers. We have to pick up the blitz. Typically, you don’t blitz an option team. That’s just the rule.”
