ST. PETERSBURG Rafael Soriano is headed to Tuesday’s All-Star Game after all.
The Rays closer was named to the squad this morning to replace Mariano Rivera of the Yankees, who was voted by the players but pulled out because of injuries to his left side and right knee.
Three relievers were voted to the team by the players. Soriano received the fourth-most votes by the players, which made him first in line as a replacement.
Soriano is tied for second in the majors with 23 saves after saving his team-record fourth straight game Tuesday against the Red Sox. He is 23 out of 24 in save chances and leads the majors with a 95.8 save percentage.
The Rays now have four players on the All-Star team.
Third baseman Evan Longoria and left fielder Carl Crawford were voted to start the game by the fans.
David Price was voted by the players and could start the game.
