ARLINGTON, Tx Andy Sonnanstine is headed back to Tampa Bay.
The right-hander will rejoin the team today when rosters can be expanded to 40 and join the bullpen.
Sonnanstine, who was optioned to Durham on July 9, didn’t exactly figure things out during his stay with the Bulls. After allowing six earned runs in three innings Wednesday, Sonnanstine’s ERA grew to 5.78.
But Rays manager said Sonnanstine, 0-2 with a 5.71 ERA in 14 appearances with the Rays earlier this season, including four starts, will give the Rays something they dodn;t have – an innings eater in the bullpen.
Also, catcher Jose Lobaton will catch seven innings for the Class A Stone Crabs tonight and will likely rejoin the team Friday when they return to the Trop.
