Riverview junior shortstop Kayleen Boatwright, who guided the Sharks softball team through the postseason en route to the Class 6A region final last season, has verbally committed to the University of Tampa, Riverview softball coach Angela Slater said.
As a sophomore, Boatwright batted .475 with 47 hits, 39 RBIs, 27 runs and 17 extra base hits, including six home runs. Against Countryside in the region semifinals, she went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI to give Riverview a 2-0 win.
Boatwright also recorded five stolen bases and owned a .904 fielding percentage with 44 put-outs. She led all public school players in RBIs and tied for most in the county in home runs.
Boatwright is the second player from Hillsborough County to commit to the Spartans this week. Newsome senior infielder Chelsey Brooks has also verbally committed.
Tampa lost in the first round of the NCAA Division II tournament last season.
