RSL Florida’s boys under-18 team earned a point with a 0-0 draw against the Dallas Texans, keeping it in position to advance to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Youth Soccer Southern Regionals in Dallas on Saturday afternoon.
In a physical game that saw three players ejected—one, defender James Crater, from RSL, two from Dallas—RSL had chances to earn victory, most notably a missed penalty. Despite that, Coach Steve Wolf was pleased to come away with a point, and the chance to advance.
“We didn’t play that well, I thought our passing was off, but we stuck in there, fought really well, and defended really well,” Wolf said. “It was a crazy, crazy game, but 0-0 against the Dallas Texans is a good result. I’m OK with it.”
With a limited squad that became even further reduced with Crater’s suspension, Wolf said they will play a more defensive style in their final game against the Norcross Fury, who advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-0 win against Andromeda FC. RSL may also see if they can fly a couple of players out to provide reinfocements for a team that is now low on gas.
“We’re running on low batteries,” Wolf said. “Brian Fekete our left back, both games I opened up the entire left side and [gave him the freedom to attack], and he’s on his last legs, so tomorrow I may sit someone in front of him, and another starter Glenn Duffy hurt his ankle today, but I’m hopeful about him.”
