Lake Gibson’s Andrea and Andrell Smith, who signed early with the University of South Florida’s women’s basketball team in November, have enrolled at Gulf Coast Community College where they’ll play this season, USF coach Jose Fernandez said.
The Smith twins were rated as “one of the best guard combinations in the country” by the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. Their father, Victor, said earlier this summer that they had not yet met college entrance requirements.
Also, former USF men’s basketball player Orane Chin has transferred to Cal State Fullerton. Chin started 14 games last season, averaging 3.9 points and 2.9 rebounds.
His most noteworthy accomplishment at USF? In a home game against St. John’s, Chin came to the scorers table and took off his warm-up top to discover his jersey was on backward. There’s no official record listed in the media guide, but he’s believed to be the first USF player in school history to try and enter a game with his jersey on backward.
