Hello Frank, I read your column Sunday and do agree with you. The bay is looking better these days. I have, though, noticed a few things. The absence of kings crown conchs. I used to see them everywhere and they were big. Now I rarely see them, and when I do they are very small. Do you have a take on this? Also, I was at the Gandy area the other day and noticed the absence of seagrass off of Georgetown. This area used to be huge and it was full of trout. When I was a boy, my stepfather and I always fished there first because of all the grass. Now the grass is very sparse and it is mostly sand flats. I wonder what happened there? But, I have noticed that the grass is coming back in the shallow water off of Simmons Park in Ruskin. Also, do you know if they are going to replace the reef markers in the bay? I saw one washed up on the beach at Picnic Island the other day. How can the average fisherman find the good locations without electronics we can’t afford? I enjoy your columns and am glad Tampa Bay is still a wonderful place to fish. Thanks, Mike Baier
A: I’m starting to see quite a few small king conchs along the south shore, but I understand these are slow-growing; maybe in a few years we will see more of them once again throughout the bay. Re the big flat near Gandy, I don’t know why that one has not come back, but it might be worth noting that this area was one of them where water quality was marginal in the most recent report. On the reef markers, I will pass along your request to the county and see if we can’t get something going on that front, though with the current budget crunch in nearly all departments, it may be a challenge. Thanks for your note, and good fishing. FS

I was on the internet looking for fishing waders for surfcasting and run across a article that must have been in the tampa tribune at one time concerning types of waders, etc. I would like to know if you know a local place that sells and inventorys the stocking waders of medium or good grade. The closest source I have found is Cabelas in Ft. Myers.
I checked the sporting goods store off of Hwy 19 but they seemed to be pushing other things than waders and only had a couple prs in stock and no-one who really knew much about them.
I intend to surfcast off MacDill shoreline as well as other areas in Tampa and St. Pete. and sure would like some help.
Sincerly
Ron

I am a distributor of a new product called the Monomaster. It is a small, eco friendly device that is used for storing those discarded leaders and tippets and other scrap fishing line that is so harmful to wildlife. It can be hung on a vest or kept anywhere else. You simply insert a loop of the line into a slot and turn a knob. It neatly rolls up it up to be safely discarded later.
Suggest removalAs an angler I have witnessed the damage a piece of mono can do. It can also entangle your equipment when it starts to pop out of your pocket like a coiled spring!
I would like to send you one of these at no charge for you to try just to get your opinion. If you are interested please just email me and tell me where to send it.
Thanks and regards,
Gary Cunnane

I have a question. Is there anywhere on-line I can get a map of Florida Coast (Tampa Bay) that will give me a view of water depth. Say I want to go off the Tampa Coast and get to a certain water depth to fish for Snapper or Grouper. Where can I got to get this information?

Hi, I will be staying on Holmes beach the week of 7/26. My question is, what are the best lures for Tarpon or Snook used right off the beach at sunrise? or is live crab the best bet?

I live in Ruskin on 15 acre lake. There are all kinds of fish that I don’t know. I have fished with worm, bugs, bread, hot dog and rubber worms. No luck, not even a bite. We have Taloupia too. How do I catch any fish?
