TAMPA – Looks can sometimes be deceiving and it appears they were early today at One Buc Place.
The sight of rookie Roy Miller taking first team reps at defensive tackle left some thinking Miller would likely start in place of Ryan Sims in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers season opener Sunday against Dallas.
That’s apparently not going to be the case. Unless, of course, Sims cramps up again and can’t go, which was the case on Friday.
Sims was simply held out of the workout because of the cramping Friday and plans still call for him to be the starter Sunday. You can expect to see a lot Miller, too, though.
The Bucs have plans to make regular use of all of seven of their defensive lineman, who will rotate regularly in an effort to keep them fresh not only through Sunday but through the end of the regular season.
Sims said earlier in the week that he hopes to get about 40 snaps this week, which means Miller can likely expect to get about 20.
The fact that Sims was pulled form the workout Friday meant he had to appear on the injury report, but he’s there as probable. So are WRs Antonio Bryant (knee) and Michael Clayton (hamstring).
Rookie CB E.J. Biggers (shoulder) is out for the game, while TE John Gilmore (ankle) and LB Adam Hayward are listed as doubtful. DE Kyle Moore (groin) is listed as questionable.
