TAMPA - A potential new landing spot has opened up for disgruntled Bucs quarterback Chris Simms.
With Peyton Manning expected to miss all of training camp and possibly the first week of the regular season following surgery to remove an infected bursa sac in his knee, the Colts are believed to be on the lookout for an extra quarterback.
Simms, of course, has been begging the Bucs to let him go for months. He feels he’s not a part of the Bucs future and wants to begin his career anew elsewhere. Indianapolis could be the place.
Because Manninig is the Colts undeniable and sturdy starter (he’s missed only one regular season play because of injury during his career) the Colts currently have just two other quarterbacks on their roster. One is Josh Betts, who spent last season on the practice squad. The other is Adam Tafralis, a rookie free agent out of San Jose State.
The Colts appear then to be in need of an arm just to get through camp. They would also seem to be in a situation where they need to add a quarterback who is capable of starting and keeping the ship afloat for a while, should Manning need more than the expected four-to-six weeks to recover from his surgery.
Considering the circumstances, Simms may not be the best option, but he is an option. And while we’re on the subject of Simms, this whole Brett Favre mess is probably messing with his chances of leaving the Bucs anytime soon via trade. Here’s why.
We know that the Bears and Lions are two of the teams that have expressed an interest in possibly trading for Simms. Both teams, however, are believed to have interest in Favre as well.
Until the Favre mess is settled, neither team is likely to make a move on Simms. That leaves Simms in the lurch. Which means he’ll probably end up going to training camp with the Bucs.
As much as Simms doesn’t want to do that, it may prove to be in his best interest. If Simms can get any reps at all at camp he could prove he is indeed healthy and ready to play again.
And if he can prove that, then some team such as the Colts, who loses a quarterback to injury, may finally agree to pay whatever it is the Bucs want for him and take him off the Bucs hands.

Buh Bye Simms…don’t forget to bring your spleen with you!!! You think being a backup in Indy is going to be any better than being a backup in Tampa then you are sadly mistaken…a backup is a backup wherever you go…Know your role and shut your mouth!!!

Yes, the Lions and Bears would be interested in Farve, and may hold on in hopes of getting him - but they will not. Does anyone in their right mind think that Green Bay will help their division rivals? NO. Would they potentially help others in the NFC, a big maybe. The AFC, definately.
Lions and Bears can wait as long as they want, I do not see them getting Farve directly from Green Bay - end of story. Good luck to Simms, he may make a good QB somewhere.

I am with Todd…......I am sick of the entire Simms saga. I have been a fan of Simms and wish him well…but enough is enough! I just hope he doesn’t put a curse on the Bucs the way Doug Williams did in the 80s

Great to see Roy knows who the #2 QB for the Colts is. Just another day in the life of Roy “is it hockey season yet?” Cummings. And by the way, nice job on reporting the Favre dinner at Fleming’s. It didn’t happen, but don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Doug Williams never put a curse on the Bucs. Williams is a christian, not a santeria, and is incapable of putting “curses” on anyone. The alleged “curse” was made up by the media in much the same manner as the “Big Bambino” curse. I have more of a chance starting for the Bears or the Lions at QB than Farve does. Packers would never trade Farve to an conference rival. Geeze, Roy!

I heard Simms will show up for the start of training camp. Hopefully that will prove he is ready to play football to all the teams that are interested in him and will raise him trading value.

Huh? I just checked the Colts official website to make sure Jim Sorgi is still on the roster, and he is. Sorgi is Peyton Manning’s backup.
How can Cummings not even MENTION Jim Sorgi when he lists the Colts’ backup QBs??
One thing is for sure—TBO.com is NOT a reliable resource!

Simms to the Colts…WOW…Don’t worry guys, Chris has been cussed out enough to last his entire career, he will do just fine for the Colts if he is so lucky to go there. Dallas is looking for a backup QB for Romo too or did Jerry jones sign someone.

I just love the fact that Roy’s name is nowhere to be found on the story, maybe he’s ashamed of his own writing who knows?...maybe he’ll quit or get fired (hopefully) or did he just write this on his way to the grocery store and sent it via cell phone hahaha way to meet a dead line again Roy.

Simms shows up for camp and blows Griese, McCown and Garcia out of the water. Simms is the best QB on the roster. in fact Gruden will tuck his tail between his legs once he see Simms put on a show in camp. They don’t want to pay Garcia and will let him go, Griese is just a bad QB period. Tampa gets 8-10 years of solid QB from Simms. if Gruden uses him from the shot gun and gives him protection Simms is a 10 game winner year after year, lets not forget Simms is 7-0 when sacked 2 or less times in a game. Still unproven with only 15 career starts. Big mistake if Tampa lets him go. He will go on and win a few SB and will join the club of QB Tampa has let go and went on to win SB’s. You heard it here first!!!

I hope Simms does put on a good showing at TC. His trade value will go up. Either way Simms is out of here if he does good or not. See ya Simms you cry baby !!! I would rather play Josh Johnson right now than that sissy.
Suggest removalI don’t care if he leaves here and wins 10 Superbowls.
Por (raw_as_fuq) on July 17, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Nick, hahahaha! Simms cant even get the ball over the D-line and when he does it get INTed most over the time! The Bucs need a QB that can get sacked more than 2 times and still win.
Anyways that stat is a LIE! In 2006 he got sacked twice and we lost to the Ravens at Ray-J 0-27, he got sacked once and we lost to the Falcans at their place 3-24, he got sacked once and we lost to the Panthers at Ray-J 24-26. If you dont belive me its on this website ... http://www.nfl.com/players/chrissimms/gamelogs?id=SIM339462&season=2006

Chris Simms was nice he played behind a terrible line without the shotgun
so thats why his passes get deflected he has the strongest arm on the team and he got hurt trying to make a play to get his team going after taking some nasty hits from the blindsise
GIVE HIM ANOTHER SHOT
