TAMPA – If you’re wondering why Chris Simms has been skipping all the Bucs “voluntary’’ workouts this spring, you may want to pick up a copy of tomorrow’s Tribune or check back here for an update to this blog.
I just got off the phone with Simms, who vented everything he has to vent, which is one way of saying he would have vented his spleen if he still had one to vent. But he doesn’t.
And therein lies the problem. Though he still has tremendous respect and feels great loyalty towards the Bucs owners and even their general manager, Bruce Allen, he can’t say the same for his coach, Jon Gruden.
Simms says he can “never’’ forgive Gruden for the way Gruden treated him last year while he was attempting to come back from his spleen injury and just wants to part ways with his coach.
He doesn’t deny that Gruden has taught him things he never knew or helped him develop as a quarterback, but Gruden treatment over the last year has soured Simms to the point where he just wants out of the Bucs organization.
“And that’s hard for me to say,’’ Simms said. “It kills me to say that because the Bucs have been great to me. The fans there are great. I love being in Tampa; my family loves being in Tampa.
“It’s an awesome sports town, a town that loves football. But the relationship between me and coach Gruden, it’s broken. It just is, and I don’t see any way it’s going to get better again.’’

William,
That would be great to get a deal done for Jason Taylor thats what I’ve been saying all along. The only problem is C. Henne is already a better QB then Chris Simms so I don’t think thats going to happen. It would be sweet if it would. Parcells should give Phill Simms “the man that won him a superbowl” son a chance there.

Guys, no way Parcells trades for Simms. Parcells is way too smart and will not trade Jason Taylor for anything less than a top draft pick. I don’t think Simms’ trade value is anything higher than a 4th or 5th round pick and wouldn’t be surprised if he was traded for a 6th or 7th round pick.

I never seen so much love for a QB with a 71.2 QB rating and 5 more INTS then TD’s. I am sure he is a great guy but he isn’t a NFL starter and that’s all the fans should care aboutshow

Chuckie is good man. He works 24/7/365 in search of Perfection. He takes his kids to the Practices and does all he can to be a family man. But he gets paid a lot of money to Win, to fill up the Stands, to look out for the Guys that actually play on this team. He’s not a baby sitter, he doesn’t care if your feelings get hurt. Why should he? That’s not his job. Have you seen his QB camp, his presence, the way he commands a room? he never publicly calls out his players either. What happens in the Locker Room, stays in the Locker Room. That is Leadership. But there is no place for Whining, Complaining and me,me,me. It’s TEAM. His Team, Our Team, The Team.Go Bucs!

The Bucs got rid of one cry baby, (Plummer), soon they’ll be rid of the next one, (Simms.) Let’s move on to the season and quit wasting good blog time on cry baby losers like those two.

I say I think the Bucs cut the wrong QB, That QB was then picked up with the rams. I think The Roster QB would look like this. Starter Garcia, B/up Griese,
Suggest removal3rd Qb Rookie Johnson (the future in 2 to 3 yrs), GO BUCS

I am a little late to this conversation but I noticed this blog being referenced on wikipedia under the Chris Simms pages on there. What I don’t understand is that Chris who was one of my favorite prospects until he forgot how to throw a football in the games leading up to his unfortunate injuries never clarified what Gruden did to say things such as “...never forgive him…” Just wondering if anyone knows specifics.
