If Jeff Garcia is to become the starting quarterback like many people have predicted, he’ll have to take the job from Chris Simms.
During this week’s OTAs, Simms took snaps with the first team, while Garcia got most of his work with the second and third teams.
“I’ve been getting a good amount of first team reps,” Simms said. “We’re kind of a little bit all over the place. Quarterbacks are trying to get reps, linemen are in and out, running backs are in and out.
“As far as who’s starting and who is not, I’m not worried about it. I’m really not.”
Simms admitted he had a little rust due to the fact he hasn’t played since he ruptured his spleen in the Sept. 24 game against Carolina, but he’s experiencing no problems with his body.
“I took a few hits today. I took a few good ones,” Simms said. “I’m not supposed to get hit, but I guess they wanted to test the spleen. They wanted to test the space where the spleen was.”
Garcia got an instant reminder on the practice field this week just how involved Gruden’s offense is and how much work he has ahead of him.
“I think for me, it’s just getting to a point where it’s comfortable,” Garcia said. “I’m learning once again, not a lot going through my mind. The mental part of the game, I need to get under wraps so I can just come out on the field and react. It’s still a work in progress for me.”
Garcia is getting married next weekend in California, but said he won’t miss any of the remaining OTAs.

your complaining because we won a divisional title in the last 2 years, and your saying what have you done for me lately, what your not allowed to have a off year, not looking at the fact we had 9 starters on ir and thats not suppose to affect the team, you lose your best cover guy, your starting qb,defensive end, running back part of season, starting reciever, and thats not going to make a difference…if marvin harrison, payton manning and canto june got hurt on the colts your going to tell me the colts would have won the super bowl….think not…this team went 11-5 two years ago…everybody was health, this team has the talent, injuries can ruin a team for the whole season.

so tell me something if rattay was better than bruce….y wasnt he the backup…the rookie outplayed the vet….what do you expect a coach to do if a player is playing better than the other, bench the better playing one…thats sounds like a great idea ..look gruden has showed he can coach and his resume speaks for it itself,we all make bad descisions and we learn from them…sorry we cant win division titles and super bowls every year…..GO BUCS

Apparentlty bruce wasn’t better than rattay because rattay played the final games. All these players we lost during the season didn’t end our season-gruden and allen did because last offseason they didn’t prepare for this like they did this season. They did not sign one defensive player last offseason.Kelly is not a cover CB-he plays 10-15 yards off of the line. Its not about winning in two season-we are not getting better as a team, our young players are not getting better-you don’t get it.Look at clayton, when will simms get better, how about caddy, how open do alex smith get.Gruden is a coordinator not a head coach, there’s a difference

Listen hear prettyboy pat,I’m not complaining about the wins,i’m really complaining about the state of the team,no youth put in place for the defense-since he been here there is no young stand out player on defense.See pat unlike you i’m a football fan first then a team fan. You’re still talking about stats and resume’s'but we are losing-at the end of the season that what matters.Gruden and allen can only win with a ready team, they do not know how to get the players we need to put in place when other players get hurt. For the last three seasons we only really had one receiver that can get open-whats going on-what talent-you’re a jag fan-you’re funny!

once again we didnt need to address the defense last year, they finished in the top 10 for the 9th straight yr,and what about ruud, adams, zemaitis, bennett, nicholson, young defensive players,we finished out of the top 10 for the first time in 9 years, most of our starters again were on the ir,,you lose 2 or 3 key players on any defense it will make a difference, and for the offense,we started two rookies on the line, they went out got a proven vet to help the young players get better on the oline,so i do see positive changes on this team, you cant blame gruden for dropped balls, thats the players fault ...plus with the way stovall played in the later part of last season, clayton should be looking over his shoulder even if we dont get calvin
