Simeon Rice Sounds Off Again On Jon Gruden

Posted Jan 30, 2009 by Anwar S. Richardson

Updated Jan 30, 2009 at 09:11 AM

Former Tampa Bay defensive lineman Simeon Rice is attacking Jon Gruden like the quarterbacks he once terrorized.

Rice called Gruden a “scumbag” during an interview earlier this week and did not back down from those comments during an ESPN interview:

Rice Blasts Gruden Again

Rice joins Michael Clayton and Shaun King as former players who have recently blasted Gruden in recent interviews. Do you think they are just bitter or is there a degree to truth in their anger?

Of course there’s truth in it. He habitually lied to players per their interviews at the time. You can dismiss one or two as sour grapes, but not all that have said it. His ego proved more important than the needs of the team. That is detrimental. You have to get rid of players and coaches like that. They’re not Buccaneer material. Now, let’s move forward.

Simeon Rice has always been a head-case, but was an awesome player. Even Andy Reid kicked him off the probowl because he’s a moron. Now he’s no longer the great player he was, but he obviously still is a moron. What do these crybabies want? A hug??? It’s football!!! Yes, you play good, youre the hero…you get hurt, and you get shipped out. What’s so “scumbag” about that??? It’s life in the NFL, babies. Notice how most of these bitter players started complaining about Gruden once their skills diminished. Who’s coming out to ##### next…Brian Kelly??

What’s a Shaun King? Oh yeah, the guy who didn’t take his job seriously enough who was replaced by Brad Johnson who won the Super Bowl. King is a future Buc trivia question. Jeff Garcia has whined about his team, coach or playing time everywhere he’s been. Michael Clayton? The movie had better legs than Clayton’s hands. I still remember Rice standing up watching Manning throw pass after pass in the fourth quarter against the Bucs in 2003 without even attempting to rush. Later the same season he got sent home from San Fran. Rice was a quitter. MeShawn Johnson? Two No.1’s for a possession receiver. Only with McKay and Dungy at the helm. None of these guys are Hall of Fame players. Listen to Derreck Brooks who is.

Gruden had a bad habit of not leveling with players.  It is a business, and if you don’t produce you get traded.  But at the same time, you need to be straight forward with people.  Gruden would say nothing to players after he wrote them off and that creates resentment and bad blood among the fraternity of players because they feel “that’s the way I will be treated.”  Just a bad management style that caught up to him.  Oh yeah, and the crappy play calling given the talent he had on the field.

So let me get this straight; Raheem Morris will be a good head coach if they give him a roster full of straight and narrow players and Pro Bowl talent?

Anyone think there was a head case or two on those Patriots, Colts or Giants teams? Anyone see 22 players from their rosters go to the Pro Bowl?

Excuses for Gruden’s lack of leadership are laughable.  He has not been a good leader period.

Let’s hope Raheem will have the leadership skills to coach a 53-man roster, including the outspoken “head cases” and non-Pro Bowl players, to a winning playoff record.

Hey Duane, dito.  Eventhough I agree with the coaching change, calling out Gruden as a “bad guy” at this point seems a bit cowardly.

Shaun King, how’s that CFL, NFL, or Arenafootball career going? Hey just pointing out your faults. Too bad it’s not on a national spotlight though heh? Why didn’t you guys(that had issues) bring this stuff then and not years later? I just think bad mouthing a guy after he was fired isn’t cool or classy, that’s all. I guess it’s like a pack of dawgs, “Go Gett’em!” You guys should have just let it go (you did back then)

Thank you America for the HUGE PROFITS!!!!

HOUSTON - Exxon Mobil Corp. on Friday reported a profit of $45.2 billion for 2008, breaking its own record for a U.S. company, even as its fourth-quarter earnings fell 33 percent from a year ago.

Bottom line is Gruden was a douche, you cant tell me he wasnt. As for Shaun King look at some of the competition he’s had to put up with, not to mention his height being a factor, these players are just telling the truth, Gruden was a guy who put insult without production into play, he only got what carma has set out to give him….Hey Gruden, goodluk coaching skyway/pop warner football next season, I hear they too have a really nice super bowl ceremony.

Of all these players is there one worth listening to? Simeon got hurt and then was cut.  Was he worth keeping? He could not cut in Denver or Indianapolis. What does that tell you.  He just has sour grapes. And if they were man enough they would have said while he was still there and not after he was fired.

Where there is smoke, there is fire. With that said, the people who are coming out against Gruden have there own personal problems.

One thing all of these people speaking out have in common is that they think they are greater then what they actually are. Shaun King still beleives he deserves to be in the NFL, Simeon’s ego is self inflated, Sapp is just Sapp, and Clayton sucks.

Por (yucs again) on January 30, 2009 (Suggest removal)

Shaun King should be greatful he even had a career(and I use that term loosely). He is even worse on tv I heard him the other day and he sounded about as ignorant as Meshawn. King and the other midget Garcia should be glad the yucs gave them a shot, if it weren’t for the pure lack of QB talent in the NFL these two bums would have been playing adult league flag football. Sorry Gruden bashers, if it weren’t for old Chucky none of you washed up has beens would even have a ring! The great Dungy made just as many early exits as Gruden and could barely win 1 SB with a loaded Colts team. Just like this year one and done Dungy did it again!! Maybe he can help out Plant next season, if so they’ll never win another one!!!

I watched the video, Rice cannot even hold a conversation.  He must have taken study hall, finger painting and PE in college.  Once his money is gone, he will have to get a job on a garbage truck!  If you are so great, how come you have been cut from 3 different teams and no NFL team wants your “Has Been” talents?

Suggest removal

Por (Peter Wood) on January 30, 2009 (Suggest removal)

The point is not Gruden’s judgement of talent, or decisions (although there are questions about that), it is the fact that over and over agin, he said one thing to his players and then did something else and then didn’t have the stones to talk to the players to let them know what is going on.  That’s his perogative but it’s also a way of losing the respect of all the players whether they say so or not.

It is amazing that you folks who HAVE NEVER PLAYED THE GAME ATTACK THE PLAYERS WHO WERE THERE!!! Suan King, Simeon, Keyshawn, Clayton, Gramatica, Sapp all said very similar things about Gruden…and the list goes on (OR DID ALL YOU GENIUS"S FORGET THE PLAYERS IN OAKLAND WHO SAID THE SAME THINGS ABOUT GRUDEN)When that many people share the same opinion independent of each other, THERE MUST BE SOMETHING TO IT!!!

Back stabbing is not too enjoyable to any of us.Lets not down grade the new Buc`s leadership until and if it warrents it.Besides I for one am critical of the moves made by the owners from way back before Gruden.

Rice, man that guy could chew up some words. When he spoke ya needed an interpreter. Not sure how anyone can speak to Gruden’s personal relationships with players. Only they know and we’re getting one side from these latest interviews. Simeon had some great years but he did go all “TO” just like like Keyshawn. Calling Gruden a scumbag shows a clear lack of class. This coming from a guy that ridiculed Pat Tillman. Anyone surprised?

For those who keep saying Gruden won with Dungy’s team, get your facts straight. Gruden won with Hugh Culverhouse’s team. Sapp, Brooks, and Lynch were drafted by Sam Wyche, who was hired by Hugh Culverhouse. Sarcastic? Yes.

Best of luck to you Gru! Thanks for the Superbowl, that truly was a great night and a great year.
