The Sickles wrestling program has a new leader in career victories.
Senior 160-pounder Skyler Woods broke Adam Waymouth’s program mark of 103 wins in his final match Saturday night at the Gary Freis Memorial Duals in Fort Myers. Woods, who went 8-0 at the tournament, now has 104 career wins.
“It’s a great testament to his attitude,” Gryphons coach Terry Brockland said. “He’s not a gifted athlete, but he works extremely hard at everything he does.”
Woods’ assault on the Sickles record book may not be over. He has a 23-match winning streak, which is just five shy of the program mark for consecutive wins.
Woods and his Sickles teammates travel to Alonso for a dual on Wednesday night. If he can earn a win there, he would have a chance this weekend to break the record at the Hillsborough County Championships, which will be held at Wharton.
