When Amber Henson showed up at the Sickles boys basketball game on Wednesday sporting a Duke sweatshirt, she coyly said it was because it’s cold outside. Actually, it was a sign.

Henson, the All-American center for Sickles and Hillsborough County’s leading scorer this year, committed to Duke on Sunday. This season, Henson led the county with a 22.1 points per game average and helped her Sickles team advance to the regional finals.
After receiving a flurry of offers, that began her eighth grade year, Henson narrowed down the lengthy list to Duke, Florida, LSU, Maryland, North Carolina, Stanford and Texas last year. Those coaches were regulars at Sickles games this season as they all tried to lure Henson to their campus.
Henson’s brother John will be right down the street. John Henson plays for North Carolina.
