Hillsborough County girls basketball nearly pulled in three grand tonight.
Three players were close to the 1,000-point and 1,000-rebound marks. Sickles Amber Henson needed just one point to reach 1,000-points in two years at Sickles. Jefferson’s Laurie’ Beaty needed 27 points to reach 1,000 points. And East Bay’s Shytina Harley needed three rebounds to reach 1,000 rebounds.
Henson scored 26 in the Gryphons victory over Steinbrenner. That puts her overall high school total at 1,465. She scored 440 during her freshman year in Texas before moving to the Bay area.
Beaty led the Dragons with 25 points in the Dragons 62-39 victory over Tampa Bay Tech. She can reach the 1,000-point mark Friday night against Hillsborough.
And Harley didn’t even get a chance to reach her mark. The Indians opponent, Freedom, had to forfeit because they didn’t get a bus to travel to the game. Harley has two more games this week to reach 1,000.
