Amber Henson and the United States team regrouped after a semifinal loss to win a bronze medal at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
The Sickles senior contributed two points, five rebounds and two assists in the United States 34-16 victory against Canada. Throughout the week-long three-on-three tournament, Henson was the United States second-leading scorer averaging 8.7 points per game which helped the team average a 20-point margin of victory in seven games. The Duke commit led the team in scoring in two games.
“It’s definitely been the best basketball experience of my life,” Henson said. “If someone asked me to do it again, I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was cool to get to know the other atheltes and compete for a gold medal. The other girls have been in USA Basketball, but this was my first time, and it was an amazing time.
“Hopefully I’ll be able to stay in the USA Basketball system.”
