TORONTO James Shields became the first pitcher since Felix Hernandez on Sept. 24, 2009 to strikeout Jose Bautista three times in one game.
After the last strikeout Bautista took his bat and went home.
Seriously.
A loud bang was heard throughout Rogers Centre then Bautista began yelling at home plate umpire Bill Welke.
What would Brad Penny think?
Bautista then started tossing his belongings onto the field. Those items were his bat, batting helmet, batting gloves and a water bottle that was innocently sitting on the rail to the dugout fence.
Afterwards, the local TV telecast zeroed in on a small hole on the back wall of the Jays dugout. Might that have been the cause of the loud bang?
Oh, and the Rays led 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh thanks to four home runs – two by Evan Longoria and one each by John Jaso and Desmond Jennings.
