Several county teams getting their 7 on this weekend

Hillsborough wide receiver Charles Lovett against Spoto defensive back Nick Addison. Two of the county’s top fullbacks, Tampa Catholic’s Hunter Joyer and Newsome’s Conner Powers on the same field.

Those are some of the more intriguing matchups that will be featured in Saturday’s Big County Preps 9 Route 7-on-7 tournament at the FishHawk Sports Complex in Lithia. The action will conclude on Sunday with a double-elimination seeded bracket. Saturday and Sunday’s action begins at 9 a.m.

There are 14 schools registered for the inaugural event, including Tarpon Springs and Wesley Chapel. The Hillsborough County teams competing are Alonso, Blake, Bloomingdale, Gaither, Hillsborough, King, Middleton, Newsome, Spoto, Strawberry Crest, Tampa Catholic and Wharton.
