Sever, Rockwell, Sweat, Heaberlin named ESPN All-Americans

Tampa Prep’s Wes Sever, Palm Harbor’s Ben Sweat, Mitchell’s Max Rockwell and Berkeley Prep’s Bryane Heaberlin were all named ESPN Rise First Team All-Americans when its winter teams were announced on Thursday.

Sever, who was the Class 2A Player of the Year and earlier this week was named the Alvarez Award winner as the best soccer player in Hillsborough County, helped the Terrapins to their third state title in four seasons, scoring 32 goals and adding nine assists in 26 games.

Rockwell was the captain of the Mustangs’ Class 4A state championship squad and had four goals and 19 assists that earned the first state soccer title in Pasco County history and the first state championship in school history.

Sweat, who will head to South Florida in the fall, led the Hurricanes to the Class 6A state championship game with 22 goals and 11 assists as Palm Harbor fell just short of back-to-back state titles when they lost in a penalty shootout to Boca Raton.

Heaberlin, who was recently named the U.S. Under-20 World Cup squad, helped the Buccaneers to the Class 3A state championship game, and recorded nine shutouts and a 0.85 goals against average. Just a sophomore, Heaberlin was also recently named a Parade All-American.

Berkeley Prep’s T.J. Roehn, headed to USF with Sweat, was also named Second Team All-America, while Tampa Prep’s Anthony Baumann, East Lake’s Javon Bostic, Durant’s Billy Fanning and Seminole’s Shane Wixted were named to the Florida All-Star squad.

On the girls’ side, Berkeley Prep’s Amber Famiglietti and Taylor Richardson, Tampa Prep’s Jordan Hatton and Colby Maffei, Newsome’s Karina Gustche, Palm Harbor’s Catherine Brinkman and Shannon Walisch were all named to the Florida All-Star squad.
