Sean Burke sighting

Posted Aug 30, 2007 by Erik Erlendsson

Had a couple of inquiries via email lately regarding Sean Burke and his whereabouts. Well, according to this story in the Arizona Republic he’s been working with some of the Coyotes’ players in Phoenix where he lives. Burke, 40, said he would like to play another season but stated he has prepared himself mentally in case there are no offers out there. And considering Ed Belfour couldn’t land an NHL job this season despite the year he had in Florida last year and the lack of quality starters around the league (Belfour signed in Sweden), then I can’t imagine too many teams will be knocking on Burke’s door anytime soon. Perhaps if a team suffers some serious injury early in the season Burke might get a call, but it sounds like Burke’s stellar career in the NHL might be over.

Best of luck to Sean regardless of where this year takes him. As for comparing his situation with Belfour’s, well, Eddie’s penchant for making a fool of himself in watering holes may very well have been a reason no one from the NHL came knocking on his door this season.  Sean’s a classy guy, and would never embarrass his team or himself as Belfour seems wont to do.
