The top two lines dominated the first day of scrimmages at Tampa Bay Lightning training camp.
Free-agent signee Alex Tanguay registered a hat trick playing on a line with captain Vinny Lecavalier and Steve Downie in the first game, a 6-3 victory by Team A over Team C.
The line of Marty St. Louis, Steven Stamkos and Ryan Malone combined for 10 points in the second game, a 5-3 win for Team B over Team C.
Tanguay, a former All-Star who signed a one-year deal with the Lightning, found a rebound in front for his first goal, deflected a Lukas Krajicek shot for his second and put a sharp-angle shot off the shoulder of goaltender Michael Zador to complete the hat trick.
Adam Hall, Martins Karsums and Paul Szczechura also scored for Team A. Krajicek finished with three assists while Stephane Veilleux had a pair of assists. Mitch Fadden, Juraj Simek and James Wright scored for Team C in the first scrimmage.
In the second scrimmage, Stamkos had a goal and two assists, St.Louis a goal and three assists while Malone had a goal and two assists for Team B. Drew Miller and Ryan Craig also scored. Simek, Lauri Tukonen and Chris Lawrence scored for Team C.
Goaltender Mike Smith faced five shots, allowing three goals, two on penalty shot situations. Jaroslav Janus, who is playing for a contract, stopped 25 of 28 shots combined in the two games.
