Local products Jordan Schilit (Jesuit) and Mark Parrish (Chamberlain) closed out the 2011 college cross country seasons at their respective NCAA championship meets this weekend.
Schilit, a junior at Division III Haverford College, finished 18th at Saturday’s championship meet in Winneconne, Wisc. Schilit, who won the conference title last week, covered the 8-kilometer course Saturday in 24 minutes, 35 seconds to lead his team to second place behind Illinois’ North Central Unversity.
Parrish, a sophomore at the University of Florida, raced in the Division I championships Monday on a cold and rainy course in Terre Haute, Ind. Parrish was the Gators’ top finisher, taking 68th in a 10k personal best time of 30:32 in his first appearance in the NCAA title meet.
As a team, Florida didn’t fare well. With Parrish the only Gator in the top 100, the Gators were 30th in the 31-team field.
