Anglers fishing with me on the Snook Fin-Addict, out of CB’s Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key, had good action recently with little tunny and Spanish mackerel. We also caught and released trout and blues in Sarasota Bay.

Several trips in the coastal gulf off Siesta Key, Lido and Longboat Keys during the past few days produced Spanish mackerel to 5 pounds and little tunny to 10 pounds on Clouser and Crease flies.

A trip near Egmont Key, at the mouth of Tampa Bay, also resulted in fast action with Spanish mackerel to 2 pounds, jacks to 3 pounds and little tunny to 10 pounds on Clouser flies fished on sinking fly lines.

The best action in Sarasota Bay has been on deep grass flats near Buttonwood Harbor and the Ringling flats with trout to 18 inches, jacks to 3 pounds and blues to 4 pounds on flies.

Captain Jim Klopfer, of Adventure Charters, reported fast action in Sarasota Bay near ICW markers 5 & 7 and near Bird Key with trout to 17 inches, Spanish mackerel to 3 pounds, jacks to 2 pounds, black sea bass to 12 inches and mangrove snapper to 14 inches on glow Gulp shrimp on a quarter-ounce
Cotee jig head and free lined live pilchards.

Captain Ed Hurst, of the Reel Freedom, also had fast action with trout, jacks and blues on flies near Bishops Point.
Fishing the coastal gulf and deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay should get even better with each cold front as we head into November.
