Storm veteran receiver Lawrence Samuels completed the franchise trifecta during Tampa Bay’s loss to Chicago on Monday night.
Samuels moved into first place on the franchise’s all-time list for career receiving touchdowns with his two touchdown receptions Monday. The two touchdown grabs gave him eight on the season and 151 for his Storm career, one better than the 150 former Storm great Stevie Thomas amassed during his Tampa Bay career.
Samuels now holds the franchise marks in career receptions (895), receiving yards (10,405) and touchdown receptions (151).
Samuels can move into the AFL record books Friday night when the Storm host Southern Division-leading New Orleans. If Samuels catches one pass, it will be the 129th consecutive game he has done so, breaking the record set by former Orlando Predator Cory Fleming. Samuels caught a season-high nine passes in Monday’s loss.
In other Storm news, neither offensive lineman Kenyatta Jones (calf) nor defensive back Daryon Brutley (concussion) practiced Wednesday, and it appears both could miss Friday’s game. Both players were listed as doubtful on the league’s injury report.
