It would be nice to be a fly on the wall in the USF locker room right now to hear what Coach Jim Leavitt is telling the Bulls after a dismal performance in the first half by his team.
USF committed four turnovers and had a punt blocked—and yet trails Rutgers only 13-0 at halftime.
The Bulls managed just four first downs and 125 yards of total offense in a first half dominated by Rutgers thanks to USF miscues. However, despite the turnovers and blocked punt, the Scarlet Knights scored only six points off USF mistakes.
“We’re very fortunate to be in this game,” Leavitt said to ESPN as he raced toward the locker room.
Here are the first-half stats:
First downs: USF 4, Rutgers 12
Rushing yards: USF 24, Rutgers 52
Passing yards: USF 101, Rutgers 154
Total yards: USF 125, Rutgers 206
Total plays: USF 23, Rutgers 45
Turnovers: USF 4, Rutgers 1
Penalties: USF 2-20, Rutgers 1-10
Back after the third with another update. So far, pretty ugly for the Bulls.
