RSL Florida’s boys under-16 team advanced to the final of the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships after Kody Thomas scored his third goal in as many games for the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory against California’s Slammers FC in Overland Park, Kan. on Friday afternoon.
Thomas scored in the 10th minute, and RSL was able to make the goal stand up, Kody Parker recording the shutout in goal.
RSL will face a rematch with Slammers FC in Sunday’s final after the California club finished second in the six-team group on goal difference despite the loss. Should RSL earn victory, it would become the first team from Florida to win a USYS national championship since the Clearwater Chargers’ boys under-19 team took victory in the 1997 tournament.
