Goals by Kyle Apperson and Kody Thomas allowed RSL Florida’s Boys under-16 team rally for victory in its opening game of the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships with a 2-1 victory against the Philadelphia Soccer Club at Overland Park, Kan. on Wednesday.
Darius Madison gave Philadelphia the lead in the first half, but Apperson tied the game in the 62nd minute. Thomas then scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute.
RSL will face a big challenge in their second group game against the 2009-2010 National League champions the Grand Rapids Crew Juniors on Thursday. Grand Rapids is making its third straight appearance at the tournament and earned a 1-0 victory in its opening game against Blast FC of South Ohio.
