It’s been a two-man show at FC Tampa Bay Rowdies camp so far, with Head Coach Paul Dalgish being assisted by General Manager Perry Van Der Beck as the process of putting together a team begins.
According to Dalglish, that could be the way it stays for a while, with no assistant manager currently on the horizon.
“Everything we’ve done in this organization so far has been top class,” Dalglish said after Tuesday morning’s training session. “Unless we find the right person to come in and be the assistant, it’s going to be me and Perry. We’re not just going to get someone for the same of getting someone. Someone’s got to be Rowdies-quality, and we’re going to be patient until we find that person.”
Speaking of Rowdies-quality, Dalglish has been happy with the performance of the players who are with the team on trial. Included in the group are some familiar faces like local players Chad Burt, Kirk LaBusch and Tanner Wolf, and former University of Tampa standouts Ryan Thompson and Ryan Maxwell.
“It’s only day two, so I’m not going to get too excited or write anybody off yet, but they’ve certainly not let the standard down,” Dalglish said. “I’m very pleased.”
Maxwell was the only injury casualty from Tuesday’s session, having to sit out towards the end after tweaking his left hamstring. Both he and Thompson are expected to spend time with Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas when they come to Tampa for games against the Rowdies and Philadelphia Union on March 12 and 14.

Sorry but that attitude stinks of either too much pride in Dalglish’s unproven abilities or just too cheap on the part of the ownership. Neither sounds good to me. You need assistant coaches. It helps the players big time. Is Perry and Dalglish, who are not goalies, going to train the keepers?

I see they signed a GK coach. Any others coming?
