Rowdies drawn against Texas amateur team in U.S. Open Cup

The FC Tampa Bay Rowdies will travel to Dallas, Texas to face amateur club Legends FC in the opening round of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, June 15 at 8 p.m. CT after the draw was released on Wednesday evening.

Should the Rowdies advance to the second round, they could face in-state USSF Division II rival Miami FC, who were drawn against USL Premier Development League club the Central Florida Kraze in the first round.

Legends FC went undefeated while not conceding a goal in the USASA Region III Tournament. It is the third time they have reached the final stage of the tournament, previously having competed in 2004 and 2006.

The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest soccer tournament in America, first being played in 1914. The winner of the tournament earns a place in the CONCACAF Champions League, with Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders being the current holders.

The remaining eight MLS teams in the competition will enter the final stage of the tournament in the third round.
