Robinson senior wrestler Zach Boyer has signed with The Citadel, a Division I program, Knights coach Tommy Montero confirmed.
Boyer, a four-year varsity wrestler at Robinson, finished his prep career with a 157-24 record. In his final two seasons, he ended the year standing on the medals podium at the FHSAA state championships in Lakeland.
Boyer placed sixth in Class 1A at 130 pounds as a junior, and this past season took third in Class 1A at 135 pounds, finishing with a 42-5 record.
“The kid is the hardest worker in and out of the [wrestling] room,” Montero said of Boyer. “He’s focused and knows exactly what he wants. He wanted this a year ago and has worked day and night to get it.”
Boyer, who graduated Tuesday, was a Tribune All-Hillsborough County second team selection as a senior after earning honorable mention recognition during his sophomore and junior seasons. Montero said Boyer will wrestle at 133 or 141 pounds in college.
