Kevin McCray has been hired as the new baseball coach at Robinson High.
McCray, 39, replaces Juan Fontela, who recently resigned after two seasons with the Knights.
McCray has spent the past decade doing private instruction and coaching in youth leagues in the Bay area. Prior to that, he had a three-year stint as head coach at Belleview High near Ocala.
McCray is a graduate of Florida State, where he wrapped up his collegiate playing career in the early 90s after beginning it at USF. He also served two years on the Seminoles staff as an assistant under longtime FSU coach Mike Martin in the mid-90s.
“I’m hoping that because of my involvement in youth athletics in the area that kids and families have become familiar with me, and I’m hoping that improves interest,” McCray said, adding he sees a lot of potential with the Knights program. “There are a lot of good things going on here, you know. The football team is on a nice run, and I’d love for people to get excited about baseball.”
