Something special happens when Jesuit and Robinson play each other.
In their regular-season meeting last year, Jesuit took its first step toward the district title with a 29-28 victory. Robinson avenged the loss in the playoffs with a 21-7 regional final victory. With so much at stake when they play, a natural rivalry has developed.
The Class 5A-8 driver’s seat up for grabs Friday night when these two teams meet again, Robinson coach Mike DePue expects a playoff atmosphere at Jack Peters Field.
“This place will be packed,” he said.
Jesuit’s also anticipating a raucous crowd. Their used to it thtough. They had it in the regular-season loss to Plant.
The Tigers will start a different lineup against Robinson. A different quarterback, anyway. Senior Tommy Eveld will get his first start this season, Tigers coach James Harrell said.
Eveld’s taken plenty of snaps at quarterback in the first two games, including 137 passing yards and one touchdown against Plant, but senior Aaron Paulsen got the starts against Plant and Middleton.
DePue wasn’t concerned with which player got the start. He said his Knights are preparing for both.
