Riverview senior golfer Ian McConnell was named as a Rolex Junior All-American honorable mention selection by the American Junior Golf Association. McConnell was one of 48 junior players from all over the country selected to the team that consisted of 12 first team members, 12 second team members and 24 honorable mention players.
The AJGA selected players who distinguished themselves in 82 national events. McConnell finished ranked 36th in the Polo Golf Rankings used to determine the awards and had a third-place finish at the Verizon Junior Heritage, a tie for ninth at the FootJoy Invitational and a tie for 11th at The Junior PLAYERS Championship in the 2009 season.
“This was one of my goals this year and it’s a good feeling,” McConnell said. “The AJGA is the biggest junior golf tour in the country, so to be one of their All-Americans is a really big honor.”
More recently McConnell earned his third straight CLASS 2A-District 11 title and helped bring Riverview the schools first team district title. The Sharks finished third in Monday’s CLASS 2A-Region 4 tournament yesterday.
