Riverview junior softball pitcher Emily Gaitan has verbally committed to the University of Mississippi, Riverview coach Angela Slater said.

Slater said she made it official on Thursday.

Last season, Gaitan, a 6-foot-2 pitcher, went 15-11 on the mound for the Sharks with a 1.77 ERA, 168 strikeouts, with five games of 10 or more Ks, and eight shutouts. At the plate, she batted .295 with 26 hits, included eight of which were for extra bases, 29 RBIs and two runs scored.

Gaitan was selected to the Miracle Sports Class 5A All-State first-team, Tampa Tribune All-Hillsborough County Softball second-team and All-Western Conference Softball second-team last season. She was also named to the Spring Fling All-Tournament team.

Riverview lost to eventual region finalist Plant City in the district tournament last season.
