Plant’s football team has flirted with a top national ranking for most of the offseason and finally got one.
Rivals has selected the three-time state champions as the No. 1 team in the nation. The Panthers return just four starters, but three of them are Division I prospects - Phillip Ely, Tony Posada and James Wilder, Jr.
It’s the first a team from Hillsborough County has earned a top national ranking. Earlier this summer, Plant was picked as the No. 2 team in the nation by a couple of websites.
