Zephyrhills native Ricky Tomlinson won his first bout in the National Police Athletic League Championships in San Antonio Monday.
“He beat the kid we were most worries about,” said Ricky Tomlinson Sr. Monday afternoon.
Tomlinson Jr. was a winner via decision and moves on to Tuesday’s quarterfinals. Following the quarterfinals are the semifinals and then finals. Clean sweep would give Tomlinson Jr. his 17th career title.
Nearly 600 amateur boxers have convened insane Antonio for the competition, According to Tomlinson Sr., there are 14 boxers in his son’s 119-pound weight class.
